Take the Lead, I ll follow

After all you have taught me, how could I? I am that missing person that you keep calling. I thought I saw you ahead, I keep losing the way. Night and day you instruct, but my feet bring me trouble.

You brought me to the valley of vision, to see the heights of wonders; rather, I saw mountains of impossibilities. You set me by the rivers of abundance, to drink of a rejoicing spirit and overwhelming love; rather I focussed on the deadness of sorrow. You walked me through the desert of discipline to teach me the art of perseverance; rather I marry with sin.
It’s a new day; I consider your work afresh. Help me to see the world through your eyes.

Through the woods, you have made life refreshing, yet I ran out of pace to the wild where life would consume me. I taught you slept in the stormy sea but that was you saying take courage to sleep through it. The stormy blast won’t let me but you raised the bar, yet I didn’t know you were there. The dawn has broken forth; I see your hands anew. Help me to follow your silent leading, to step into your assurance.

When I don’t seem to know my way back to you, find me.
When I am tied in the depth of mediocrity; Draw me out.
Though the water, be turbid and blast unsuredly blows over me, let me find stillness.

When I am too afraid to look up and I am beaten by life’s best warriors, help me to see you beside me
Lead me through even when my ship has no rudder, and have lost the way.
Lead me when I would not listen and think I know the way
Lead me when the path leaves no trailing edge and the tiny footpath have grown weeds
Guide me always even if you have to pat me gently with a tough hand
Halt me when I am roaming and show me your light when my feet stray from the path.
Chastise me daily because you love me more.

You say you will be with me always, help me to remember you are my only company.
To remember when I feel alone is the most precious time, you are there.
To know that when you feel absent, it is the tricky end of the trailing edge.

I strive to see my best through your eyes. I behold your work and see how far you are and the depth of my struggle. I can see your light through the path, at the near end of the road, I can see faith coming alive, lead me Lord, and I will follow. I have found that all the roads, lead me back to you.
